So, recently the whole "Cao4" gang decided to take a trip to Bangkok for some R&R and after mulling for awhile, me and bubz decided to extend another day for ourselves. Catch up with each other, catch up with some act.... I mean, actual conversation and quality company ;)
Oakwood Residences situated at Thonglor was really nice to extend a One Bedroom - Executive for us! We were really psyched to try out a new location in Bangkok since it has always been the usual city area and the pictures on their site looked so damn awesome.
(Amazeballs interior! And I chose the toilet picture as the main picture because I am super anal about toilets in hotels.)
Initially, we were a little sceptical. We haven't really been to that area of Thonglor and it seemed like the hotel was way out of the main roads and BTS. Also... pictures are as deceiving as my selfies.
But after speaking with Mr. Vignesh (GM of Oakwood Thonglor) over emails for a couple of weeks and of course, coming to know that Oakwood's main company, Oakwood Worldwide has been around for 50 years and is one of the company that has the most serviced apartments round the world! 25,000 to be exact. We were absolutely sold.
(We have arrivedddd!!)
Too bad I didn't get to take a picture of their red tuktuk on the right! It's their exclusive service for all staying guests, you can take them to Thonglor BTS at certain timings or when requested!
(Can easily fit up to 6 pax from the looks of their soft creamy leather seats)
(An avant-garde lobby deserves a selfie...)
(WELCOME HOME!)
It was like... walking into our own home, no kidding at all. I was blown away (literally) a little by the loud radio from the soundbar and welcome messages on their TVs. We had a fully furnished kitchen with oven, microwave, huge fridge and Bub's favorite... a WASHING MACHINE + DRYER!
(Ample space for puny us!)
As you can see from my subpar photo taking skills, it looks just like the picture advertised on their site! With a dining area for 4, spacious living area equipped with TV, DVD, multi channel cable, MP3 docking station and home entertainment system!
Turn to your left......
(I've chanced upon Thonglor Heaven)
Upon seeing our bedroom (which is separated by a door from the living), I shrieked at, 1. The HUGE bathroom, enough to fit 7-8 people and it's sheer cleanliness of the whole space was my ultimate love. I couldn't snap a picture as it was a little too dim but mark my OCD CLEAN FREAK words that it's toilet heaven!
2. The BALCONY! Our room was facing this tranquillity of trees, architecture and it seems so surreal when you are in such a bustling city. It's great escape, especially in the morning, before all that hustle bustle.
3. THAT BED. I have no words for the comfort or what's inside that thick layer of fluffiness. We almost missed breakfast because of this bed.
We took a quick tour of the premises and found a rooftop pool, well equipped gym and a play area for the kids right outside their lobby! The hotel is also linked to the alley towards J-Avenue (shopping mall) and various hippy cafes and eateries!
(The pool looks gorgeous at night!)
(The cozy lobby just beside the reception area)
(Morning's breakfast buffet, 6am - 10am!)
(It's not a huge spread but decent varieties from light BF to heavy ones)
(Stoned by their century egg porridge)
We were introduced by the staffs that Thonglor is like a small Japanese town with many Japanese restaurants, clinics, shops and even malls (J-Avenue, Ei8ht). We did a little research on our own and found a cat cafe (PURR Cat Cafe Club) and the famous Greyhound cafe which is less than 10 mins walk from Oakwood!
(The many corners of Thonglor)
(You can hardly tell the diff, can you?)
(Bubz and a Bull out in the 40 deg heat)
Had the pleasure to meet Mr. Vignesh, Oakwood Thonglor's GM during our checkout and he filled me in with his wondrous journey with Oakwood, how he has travelled from his hometown to Thailand and his adventures in Singaland too! We were truly honored by his dedication and of course the service of his staffs too.
Review:
Service: 5/5
The staffs were all immensely attentive, smiley and ever ready to lend a helping hand.
They will also catch you off guard with their SAWADEEKHRUP!
Location: 4/5
It's a little away from the city where all the main shopping are (Platinum Mall, MBK,) but their personalized tuktuk and various other highlights near Oakwood more than makes up for it! The vibrancy of Thonglor should be explored.
Money: 3.5/5
Compared to many other boutique hotels, Oakwood Residence might be just A TAD pricier but it's fantastic for groups! It's definitely worth it with the huge space, privacy and all that in-room facilities provided.
Cleanliness/Comfort: 5/5
Superbly clean, very well maintained and every corner feels like home and personal.
I am also pleased to offer a 10% discount on all reservations made directly to reserve.resthonglor@oakwoodasia.com! Just remember to indicate "LYN10" in your email!
Have fun in the land of smiles peepos!
