People whom knows me know that i'm a huge sucker for anything and everything Japanese. Especially Japanese cuisine, I can never say no to the FOOD! From rice to sushi to ramen or meat, you'll always find me lurking at new Japanese food haunts and restaurants. And I was honored to be invited to Machida Shoten's newly revamped menu last week!

Well known for it's Iekei Ramen, which means HOME in Japan and founded since 2008, Machida Shoten has over 40 outlets in Japan and over 400 restaurants in China, Philippines, US, Italy and Thailand! The following items and their new menu consist of dishes that can only be found in the Singapore outlet! Drooling pictures coming!
(Garden Salad $9 🍙🍙🍙)
I truly love my greens and I can't go without it in all my meals. This Garden Salad offers pretty fresh greens and I love the fact that it has crispy lotus roots and "Ja-Gong" (corn) in it! The sauces were quite unique! Homemade curry dressing stole the limelight of this dish for me! If you love greens, order this 💓
(Celery Kombu $4.80 🍙🍙🍙🍙)
One of Bubs' favorites that night. Super refreshing and crunchy! Kombu is one of my favorite addons when it comes to Japanese food (MISO SOUP!) and this particular appetitizer really work its way to whet my appetite. If you're not a big fan of raw tasting veg, go for this instead!
(Burdock Tempura $7.80 🍙🍙🍙🍙🍙)
THIS! This was my personal favorite during the food tasting session! I'm a huge carbo fan but this takes the cake! Burdock is actually a type of plant, or root. Google it! And at times, you don't get the right crisp and saltiness when it comes to tempura. But this totally nailed it. Sweet and salty mixed together, with the right kind of crisp. YUMS.
(Cha-Shu Croquette $6 🍙🍙🍙)
Anything that is fried is usually tasty but this has a rather unique twist as we hardly get Croquettes with Cha-Shu in it. Minced Pork was really good but I'll mostly skip this and go for the Tempura.
(Homemade Shrimp Gyoza $9.80/5 pieces 🍙🍙🍙)
Bubs' favorite is always Gyoza but he wasn't particular taken by this. He thought that it was kinda too dry but the filling was generous with tiger prawns and shrimp! Overall still tasty but not fantastic.
(Spicy Shrimp Fried Rice $10 🍙🍙🍙🍙)
The spiciness of this dish is off the charts. As a spice lover myself, even I find this dish slightly intimidating. Absolutely love the fragrant rice and egg mixture, perfect to share for 2. Usual fried rice that we get in Japanese restaurants are without spice so this is surprisingly good for me!
(Garden Veggie Ramen $15 🍙🍙🍙🍙)
I'm probably the most odd-ish person there as I prefer this over their famous Iekei Ramen! I love the slightly sweet yet saltiness of the vegetable broth and... SWEET CORN! Non-meat lovers will fall head over heels for this. Fried garlic oil is added so soup can be a tad oily towards the end.
(Shoyu Tonkotsu Ramen $14 🍙🍙🍙🍙)
Out of the 3 Ramen that we've tried (BURP), this was Bubs' favorite. Which is also the signature Yokohama-styled Iekei Ramen! The combination of soya sauce and pork bone broth was superb! Extremely tasty when the price is so afforadable as well 😏 You can also pick your noodle's softness or hardness (I recommend soft!).

(Miso Tonkotsu Ramen $14 🍙🍙)
New on the menu and out of the 3 ramen, this was my least favorite. Not because it's not tasty but I can't get used to the super thick broth which mixes red/white miso with tonkotsu base. If you prefer thick rich broths, this is the dish for you. Comes with butter, sweet corn and cabbage!
Overall, super affordable pricings for such good Japanese feast and choices! Also love how they have an open kitchen and you can take a peek at how 'em chefs whip up these dishes for you. Staffs were friendly and service oriented as well. Give 'em a shot if you haven't already!
